Born in Maryland on this date in 1846: Talleyrand Desaix Myers. He is a quite distant relative, at second cousin, 4x removed, but remarkable because of his given name. Pictured above is his “first” namesake, Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, and and below, the honoree of his middle name, Louis-Charles-Antoine Desaix de Veygoux.
It was popular in the period to name children after Revolutionary War heroes, including this relative’s father, Thomas Jefferson Myers. But you don’t see many American boys named after heroes of the French Revolution, especially two heroes at a time! It was apparently Talleyrand D. Myers who commissioned the massive Myers family monument at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland (below). Read more …
