No close family anniversaries, that is, of documented ancestors. But anecdotally, the bloke pictured above was our approximately 14th great-grandfather. He was Henry Stafford, Second Duke of Buckingham, and he died in the Tower of London on this date in 1483, executed without trial after helping to foment a rebellion against King Richard III. Stafford was a key figure in the rise and fall of King Richard; and a probable conspirator in the presumed murders of the two young “Princes in the Tower,” earning him a supporting role in Shakespeare’s tragedy on the above-mentioned king.
