No close family anniversaries. Born on this date in 1908: Louis L’Amour, best-selling author of pulp Westerns.
In the top photo: the author is decked out to resemble a favorite star of his, John Wayne. In fact, one of L’Amour’s first successful books, Hondo, was a “novelization” of The Duke’s film of the same title. The film was in turn based loosely on L’Amour’s short story, “The Gift of Cochise.”
