Born in Frederick County, Maryland, this day in 1810: Madison Fout Myers, son of Michael Myers, and also son-in-law of our fourth great-grandfather Philip Myers. That is, Madison Myers married his first cousin Harriet Myers, and moved to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania to raise their family. Above is detail from a painting by their daughter Miranda Myers, showing their home as it looked in the late 1800s. A tall monument in Forty Fort Cemetery marks their graves.
In 2013, I looked for, but did not find, the homesite of Madison Myers’ childhood in Frederick County, Maryland; the land has been subdivided into several suburban acreages. But a quarter-mile away, there was a home purportedly built in 1826, when Madison was the teenage son of his widowed mother, living, as it were, next-door.
