Today is Olsok, the feast day of Saint Olaf. The patron saint of Norway, also known as King Olaf II Haraldsson, by tradition died on 29 July 1030, near Trondheim, at the Battle of Stiklestad. Below: Death of St. Olaf, from an altar at Nidaros (Trondheim) cathedral, painted in the early 14th century. The cathedral was built over the grave of St. Olaf in the 12th-13th centuries.
Some living birthdays today: cousin Carrol Meschke Johnson, brother-in-law Peter Drewes, and … oh, yeah … me.
