Welcome to the “original” telling (the first in English, as far as I know) of the Marte Østensdatter story. It was researched, compiled, and first presented in 2011, updated 2014, by Joanne Lillevold, all rights reserved. A thousand thanks to cousin Joanne for her permission to steal big chunks of it earlier for my series, “Marte Bø: Great-Grandma, Murderess,” and for her ongoing collaboration in our shared family history investigations.
For best viewing, click Full-Screen mode (see screenshot below). The slides advance automatically every 15 seconds. To navigate the show manually, use the buttons as shown (red text added).
Note: the navigation buttons appear only when the mouse cursor is hovering over the image. For full manual control, click Pause; each slide will then display until you click another button. Touchscreen users can also use the standard swiping motion. So, click on the image below, sit back, and enjoy this fascinating presentation.

I came across this site while Googling information on Huskelien, as some of my Norwegian ancestors came from that area, and it turns out Marte is my 8th great-grandmother; I’m descended from her older daughter, Marit. I knew nothing about this story until today, and look forward to showing it to my family.

Thank you for the comment. The slideshow was by our distant cousin Joanne Lillevold, as I explained in the introduction. Did you also see my own retelling of the story, which includes a lot more textual details?

Also, here is a Zoom talk I gave about Marte on Halloween 2021, edited and introduced by cousin Scott Hall.
